Dust mite allergies worse in winter says local expert
ONALASKA, Wis. (WKBT) — Mike Kachel, RPh, who is the director of pharmacy for Allergychoices, Inc., said dust mite allergy symptoms are a lot like seasonal allergies like grass and ragweed, and tend to be worse in the winter.
Dust mites live in the home are are invisible to the eye.
Kachel said people with severe allergies will be effected year round, but those with mild to moderate allergies will start to notice symptoms in the winter time.
“The winter months, especially around Wisconsin here, seems to have an uptick in people with allergic symptoms because the houses are closed up. They’re inside more; there’s more constant exposure”
Kachel said symptoms can be treated antihistamines and nasal spray, but suggest those with severe allergies look into immunotherapy treatment.
