Eagles Football seeks first win over Whitewater in 17 years

It’s the week UW-La Crosse Football always circles on its calendar: Whitewater Week.

The Eagles and Warhawks will face off at Perkins Stadium Saturday as both teams put their 5-0 WIAC records on the line.

The Eagles have not beaten the Warhawks in 17 years, but they’ve been close of late. In the last matchup in 2019 the Eagles led at halftime, but a Whitewater fourth-quarter surge spoiled the day.

UWL has plenty of confidence coming into this weekend after a 56-point outing the week before in their win over Stevens Point.

But it’s not just their past play that has them ready for this one, but the support from everyone around them.

“We could tell how much this community really wants this, and that shows through our coaches who have been there for so long,” running back Joey Stutzman said. “Janus really deserves it. I think this is a big game for everyone else in the community, same for us. This is our vision, this is everything we worked hard for so the opportunity to even play for a game like this is a blessing.”

Kickoff Saturday is 1 p.m.
