Eagles select Julian Vandervelde in fifth round

The Philadelphia Eagles have selected Iowa guard Julian Vandervelde in the fifth round.

Vandervelde started at left guard last season and made 37 career starts with the Hawkeyes. He’s the second offensive linemen selected by the Eagles. They chose Baylor’s Danny Watkins at No. 26 overall.

Earlier in the fifth round, the Eagles selected Pittsburgh running back Dion Lewis at No. 149.

The Eagles then made a trade, sending their second fifth-rounder (153) and a seventh (227) to the New York Jets for a fifth they used on Vandervelde and a sixth (194).
