Earth Buzz! raising awareness for polinator importance

Myrick Park in La Crosse was buzzing Sunday afternoon for a good cause.

The La Crosse Parks and Recreation Department and the La Crosse Newman Center teamed up for Earth Buzz!

The event promotes the health of area pollinators including bees, butterflies and even mice.

It’s all part of Bee Week, a program created by the Parks and Recreation Department to raise awareness of declining bee populations.

Participants in Sunday’s event were able to make pollinator homes out of piece of wood.

Organizers say it’s important for people to realize the impact pollinators have on the community.

“There are so many different pollinators out there and they all need flowers and we require pollinators. One out of every three bites of food is dependent on a pollinator,” said Sunshine Love, forest management coordinator with the La Crosse Parks and Recreation Department.

There will be Bee Week events going on throughout the community this week.
