Eau Claire Co. Board adopts resolution in support of WI Crime Alert Network

EAU CLAIRE, WI — The Eau Claire County Board approved a resolution that supports the establishment of the Wisconsin Crime Alert Network (WCAN) in Eau Claire County.

WCAN allows law enforcement to send out alerts to businesses and the public about crime which may affect them.  Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen has selected the Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Office as one of six pilot program agencies.

The Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Office says the alerts can be sent by email, cell phone text message and fax. It costs $12 per year to receive alerts. Businesses with more than one location in the county pay $12 in total.

“I’m thankful the Eau Claire County Board of Supervisors has expressed its support in this way for the Crime Alert Network,” Van Hollen said in a statement. “It is one more tool for law enforcement – in partnership with the public and private business – and it has proven successful in solving dozens of crimes.”

The La Crosse County Sheriff’s Office and the La Crosse Police Department also send alerts as a part of WCAN.
