Eau Claire Sheriff warns of person claiming to be officer

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WKBT) — The Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Office received multiple calls from citizens who have been contacted by a person claiming to be an officer.

According to authorities, the person is identifying himself as Officer Malone, Badge #777, is telling the victims that they have outstanding warrants and then directs them to go to Walmart to post bond on their warrants.

The Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Office does not have an employee named Malone and would never direct anyone to a retail location to post bond on a warrant, Sergeant John Staber said.
