Economic recovery in La Crosse metro area outpaces the state

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – During an economic outlook forum Tuesday, data from the Wisconsin Department of Revenue showed the La Crosse metro area’s economic recovery is outpacing the rest of the state.

In April of last year unemployment in the area was at 14.9%.

This past January it bounced back to 4.2%, whereas statewide it was at 5.2%.

The leisure and hospitality industries took a harder hit last year, with unemployment plunging to 52.5%.

However, there has been a significant comeback.

Data from January showed unemployment in these industries made its way back up to 18.2% – compared to 23.9% statewide.
