Effort to stop binge drinking honored

A community effort to put an end to binge drinking is receiving state wide recognition.

La Crosse’s changing the culture of risky drinking behavior project was honored last week in Milwaukee. It was part of the  Advancing a Healthier Wisconsin conference. The group which works to create a safer drinking environment, was one of three community academic partnerships honored for its work. The project has seen success,  but members say there is still a lot of work to be done.

“To bring about a change will require a change in thinking, we’re going to have to look at the economics of the situation, look at what motivates people to engage in binge drinking and underage drinking,” says Edward Kondracki, Chair of the Changing the Culture of Risky Drinking Behavior Coalition.

The project also partners with Coulee council on Addiction,  the La Crosse Police Department, and other community members and groups in the area.
