Eileen G. Temte

Eileen Gertrude (Hughes) Temte, 85, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2021, surrounded by family from complications of a prior stroke. She was born in Stratford, Wis., to Matt and Caroline (Kramer) Hughes, on July 11, 1936.

She graduated from Stratford High School, attended the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, and taught physical education at Westby High School as well as in Germany. She returned to earn her master’s degree in biology at UWL and joined the biology faculty, where she taught nature study. She married Arnold Temte in 1975 and filled many happy years with traveling, gardening, beekeeping and genealogy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Mary Ellen Hughes and Sister Dorothy Hughes, and her husband, Arnold. She is survived by Arnold’s children, Mark (Vivian) Temte, Sarah Lien, Anne (John Davis) Temte, and Jonathan (Jo) Temte, six grandchildren (Eric, Lane, Emily, Lena, Lizzy, and Jonas) and two great grandchildren (Rex and Ivan).

A Mass of Christian Burial will beat 10:00 AM on Friday, November 12,1 at the Cathedral of St. Joseph the Workman, 230 Main St., La Crosse. Msgr. Richard Gilles will officiate. Burial will follow in the Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Friday from 9 a.m. until Mass.
