Eldon ‘Charlie’ R. Helgerson

Eldon “Charlie” R. Helgerson, 67, of Holmen and formerly of Coon Valley, died Friday October 29, 2021, at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse. He was born June 15, 1954 to Beulah Holey Helgerson.

He graduated from Westby High School. Eldon served in the U.S. Army from 1973-75 and then in the U.S. Army Reserves for many years and was reactivated during Desert Shield/Desert Storm.

Eldon worked as a civilian employee at Fort McCoy for many years. He married Karen Sobkowiak and they were later divorced. He enjoyed nature – birdwatching and cutting firewood, going on long drives and having coffee and donuts at West Salem Auto.

He is survived by his 3 children, Lynn Helgerson of La Crosse, Landon Helgerson of Onalaska and Laura Helgerson (fiancé Brian Sebastian) of West Salem; two grandchildren, Jon and Asher; a sister, Sandy Aronen, his girlfriend, Tammy Erickson, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Bernice Fink and a brother, Gerald Helgerson.

A Celebration of Life will be from noon until 2 p.m. Saturday November 20, at the Coon Valley American Legion Hall. Burial will be in the Coon Valley Lutheran Cemetery. The Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley is assisting the family. Condolences may be given at selandsfuneralhome.com.
