Elementary student raises money for friend with diabetes
WEST SALEM, Wis. (WKBT) — It was a true showing of compassion and friendship today at Coulee Christian elementary in West Salem Monday.
5th grader, Jacob Peterson, surprised his good friend 7th grader Mathea Markofski who has Type 1 diabetes with a special gift..
He organized a car wash and bake sale to raise money for a service dog to detect low blood sugar levels, before she knows it’s happening.
While Jacob did most of the planning, he says the good deed wouldn’t be possible without the help of his classmates.
“This is my whole 5th grade class. They’ve all helped out. When I came to ask them to do, they were all like, ya let’s do this,” said Peterson.
For Markosfki, the surprise was something she never imagined.
I’m so thankful and humbled that they would do this for me, because I only know Jacob. It cool that they did it for someone they didn’t even know.,” said Markosfki.
The goal is to raise $15,000 dollars for Mathea.
