Ellsworth teen dies in Pierce County river

SALEM, Wis. (AP) — A 16-year-old boy is dead after losing control of his car and ending up in a Pierce County river.

According to county sheriff’s officials, 16-year-old Blake Flanigan of Ellsworth went into a ditch, then over-corrected, crossed the road and overturned in the Rush River.

WCCO-TV reports a passerby noticed the car in the river and called 911.

It happened around 3:30 p.m. Sunday along County Highway A in Salem Township.

The teen died on the scene. Deputies are investigating what caused the teen to lose control of the vehicle.
