Enduring Families Project gets state-wide recognition for highlighting historic black community leaders
Project wins 2022 Public Programs Award from Wisconsin Historical Society
LA CROSSE (WKBT) — A local project won a state-wide award for its history project Thursday.
The Enduring Families Project received this year’s Public Programs Award from the Wisconsin Historical Society.
The project shares the stories of African Americans and other non-white settlers of La Crosse County.
La Crosse County Historical Society’s Executive Director Peggy Derrick says this kind of representation is important.
“When young people see their culture, their stories, their family represented in a museum or in a video in history class at school, it gives them a place in society that they don’t have otherwise,” said Derrick.
You can watch all the videos on the La Crosse County Historical Society’s website.
