Escaped work release inmate caught after chase

A man serving prison time for robbery and escape who walked away from a work release program more than a week ago is back in custody after a police chase in Waterloo.

KWWL television reports 35-year-old Bryan Keller led police on a chase in downtown Waterloo early Sunday morning before he was stopped and apprehended.

Keller had failed to return to an Iowa Department of Corrections work facility in West Union on Sept 8.

He was serving a 60-year sentence for robbery and escape. He now faces charges of eluding, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license and stealing a vehicle.

Police report a fence near the Cedar Valley SportsPlex site was damaged but no injuries were reported.
