Eugene Kirchner

Eugene Joseph Kirchner, age 84 of Holmen, Wisconsin was called into the arms of Jesus and reunited with his beloved wife on April 30, 2021. Born in Trimbelle Township in Pierce County, Wisconsin on September 20, 1936 to Ernest and Velma (Johnson) Kirchner, he married Ellen Sobottka in 1957.
Gene was a veteran of the US Navy and spent most of his career in radio broadcasting. Gene was a life-long Dodger baseball fan, and he loved the Minnesota Vikings. He attended St Mary’s Catholic school, Prescott High School, and Brown Institute of Broadcasting. He worked in the broadcasting field for 48 years and owned WRDN Radio Station in Durand, Wisconsin from 1985-2001.
He was the father of Theresa Sharp (Greg, Laguna Hills, CA), Kathryn English (Portland, OR), Jeff Kirchner (deceased 1984), Emily Kirchner (Onalaska, WI), and Scotty Kirchner (Portland, OR). His grandchildren were Liberty, Betsy, Amanda, Jasmin, and Nicky. Great grandchildren included DJ, Abigail, Daisy, and Ophelia. Gene was preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Velma (Johnson) Kirchner and by his siblings Ralph, Dorothy Althoff, Clarence, and Norm, as well as his son Jeff and his beloved wife Ellen. He leaves behind his siblings Ed Kirchner, Jerry Kirchner, Carol Pechacek, and Dan Kirchner as well as many nieces and nephews.
Gene donated his body to Mayo Medical College for educational purposes. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Dickinson Family Funeral Homes in Onalaska assisted with arrangements. Memorials will be donated to the Durand High School baseball team.
