Ex-mayor jailed in Wis. after OWI conviction
BARABOO, Wis. (AP) — A former mayor of Duluth, Minn., and Superior, Wis., is jailed in southern Wisconsin after being convicted of second-offense operating while intoxicated.
Herb Bergson is serving a 22-day sentence in the Sauk County Jail after a jury convicted him in the May 6, 2012, incident in Baraboo.
A judge also fined Bergson $1,235 and revoked his driver’s license for 15 months.
In 2005, when he was mayor of Duluth, Bergson pleaded no contest to OWI after a crash in Wisconsin’s Washburn County.
Bergson chose not to seek re-election when his first term as Duluth mayor ended in 2007. Earlier, he was mayor of Superior.
WDIO-TV reports Bergson also faces trial for a third alleged OWI in Dane County in September. A pre-trial hearing is set for Feb. 12.
