Ex-Minnesota cop settles with state over data breach

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A former Minnesota police officer who accused other officers of illegally accessing her driver’s license information has reached a settlement with the state.

Attorneys for Anne Marie Rasmusson say the state agreed to conduct better audits and impose more safeguards on the driver’s license database.

Sonia Miller-Van Oort, one of Rasmusson’s attorneys, tells the Star Tribune a settlement was reached but paperwork has not yet been signed.

Miller-Van Oort said Tuesday that the settlement with the state centers on reforms to the database, rather than a payout.

A Minnesota Department of Public Safety spokesman says he could not comment on ongoing litigation.

Rasmusson, who worked for Eden Prairie and St. Paul, claimed more than 140 officers looked at her private data between 2005 and 2012 without a legitimate reason.
