Exhibit celebrates contributions of Gundersen women on voting organization
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — A new exhibit celebrates the contributions that Gundersen women have made to the League of Women Voters.
The League is celebrating the centennial of its formation as an organization and the ratification of the 19th Amendment. Wisconsin was the first state in the nation to ratify the amendment that gave women the right to vote.
While a lot has changed since then, the League continues to support many similar issues.
“We still try to get out information about candidates, we still are there to hold forums, we try to educate the public on the importance of voting,” said Mary Nugent, president of the League of Women Voters of the La Crosse area.
The exhibit will be on display at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse near the Healing Garden. through the end of the year.
