Experts: most car seats installed incorrectly

LA CROSSE, WI — Time is running out to check if your child is safely riding in the car. Health experts say car seat safety checks wrap up in the early fall.

At events like the one Thursday at Fire Station 3 in La Crosse, certified technicians check to make sure the seat is installed correctly.

Installation varies based on the type of seat and the make of the vehicle. And according to experts, odds are the car seat is not properly installed. “About 9 out of 10 local car seats that we check are installed incorrectly, so those are pretty high numbers which we want to reduce,” said Gundersen Health System Trauma Prevention Coordinator Kim Lombard.
