Fallen officers honored during Vernon County service
The service comes during National Police Week
VIROQUA, Wis. (WKBT) – Sacrifices of law enforcement are being recognized in Vernon County.
The annual Vernon County Police Memorial Service was held Tuesday morning outside of the Sheriff’s Office in Viroqua.
Three Sheriff’s Department members died in the line of duty, most recently in 1986.
Still, the memorial goes beyond Vernon County.
“Like any agency, big or small, it’s a law enforcement family. We get to know each other. We know the families. We know everything about each other. And it’s hard when you lose on of your own. It’s hard when you lose anybody,” said Vernon County Sheriff John Spears.
The service comes during National Police Week.
