Festers get up early for the Maple Leaf Walk Run
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT)- Runners and walkers got ready bright and early this morning for the YMCA Maple Leaf Walk Run.
Down at riverside park, participants got ready for four different races.
They had a half marathon, a 5-mile run, a 5-kilometer run, and a one-mile kids race.
This is the 22nd year the Maple Leaf Walk run has taken place.
The YMCA Maple Leaf Walk run did take place last year, but it was a virtual event.
Race organizers say they were glad they could host the walk-run in person this year.
“This is just such a great event for our community and we are so fortunate to be able to kick off the Maple Leaf Parade with the Maple Leaf Walk Run and this is just a really big event for the YMCA. It’s benefiting our annual campaign which helps support our programs like our Livestrong program, our summer food program. for kids and our youth center,” said Experience Director for YMCA, Aleesha Torres.
Event organizers estimate that there were around 950 people participating in the walk-run.
