Fire damages condemned home on La Crosse’s northside

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT)- La Crosse firefighters battled a house fire Wednesday night on the city’s northside.

The call came in around 8:30 p.m. to a home on the corner of George and Ghores Streets.

A battalion chief tells News 8 Now the house was condemned, but initial reports indicated that someone may have been inside.

There was heavy smoke coming from the second floor when crews arrived on scene.

Firefighters forced their way into the home, but did not find anyone.

Traffic was blocked off on a stretch of George Street while crews fought the fire.

No one was injured.

The fire is believed to have started in a bathroom.

The cause is under investigation.
