Fire guts Grinnell business; no injuries

A fire has caused more than $500,000 in damage to a farm implement business in Grinnell.

Cedar Rapids television station KCRG reports that the fire at the Grinnell Implement Store was discovered around 1 a.m. Friday.

The fire caused explosions that shot flames high into the air.

Firefighters say the fire started in a storage shed, igniting oil cans. That caused several small explosions that woke up people several blocks away.

The fire stripped nearly 10 tractors down to their skeletons in a matter of minutes, and narrowly missed the business’ main building.

No one was hurt.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
