Firefighters rescue man with parrot perched on his shoulder

An Illinois man who attempted to rescue his pet parrot from quicksand-like mud needed saving himself, United Press International reported.

Members of the Belleville Fire Department were summoned and helped the man out of the muddy mess while the parrot clung to his shoulder.

The department posted a video of the rescue on its Facebook page.

UPI reported firefighters showed up after witnesses heard the man calling for help from the muddy area in the city’s Bicentennial Park.

Crews arrived to find the man stuck in the mud with a parrot on his back.

“It was challenging because you couldn’t just walk out there and hoist him out. It was like quicksand,” Belleville Fire Chief Tom Pour said.

Firefighters ended up using several ladders to reach the man. Both he and his parrot were not injured.
