Food Drive Fridays: Anonymous donor to match financial donations up $25,000

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – The La Crosse County Health Department is partnering with The Hunger Task Force and other area organizations, for a drive-thru style food drive.

Shelly Fortner, Director of The Hunger Task Force, today announced that financial donations during the food drives will be matched by an anonymous donor, up to $25,000. Donations can be made online here or by calling the Hunger Task Force at 608-793-1002.

The Hunger Task Force and the programs that they serve play a vital role right now in providing food to those who are struggling as the number of food-insecure people continues to increase.  Many community members served by their partner programs already live paycheck to paycheck and they are seeing more area residents lose their income entirely because of COVID-19 related lay-offs.

Assisting the La Crosse County Health Department with the food drives are iFeed, Rotary, and Rotary Lights.

“Food Drive Fridays” will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. beginning Friday, April 17 and continue each Friday through the end of May 2020.

Locations:

  • Onalaska area: Valley View Mall parking lot (by formers Macy’s location), 3800 Hwy 16, La Crosse
  • Downtown La Crosse: La Crosse County Parking lot behind the Courthouse & Law Enforcement Center, 333 Vine St., La Crosse
  • Southside La Crosse: Big Lots parking lot located at 3960 Mormon Coulee Rd., La Crosse

Non-perishable food items are running dangerously low at The Hunger Task Force, and with the postponement of the National Association of Letter Carrier’s Stamp Out Hunger food drive, they -re in desperate need of canned goods for the programs they serve. Canned items needed include meats (tuna, chicken), peanut butter, soup, fruit, boxed side dishes (stuffing, rice, potatoes), breakfast items (cereal, oatmeal, etc), canned ravioli & spaghettios, pasta & pasta sauce.
