Former Boone officer focus of sexting investigation

BOONE, Iowa (AP) — State investigators say they have investigated claims by a woman that a former Boone police officer exchanged sexually explicit text messages with her 15-year-old daughter. They say they’ve turned their findings over to the state attorney general’s office for possible charges.

The Iowa Department of Public Safety issued a news release Wednesday saying the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation conducted interviews into the woman’s claims against former Boone police officer Rodney Thompson. Authorities say evidence was seized and examined but that the results of the investigation are confidential.

The 42-year-old Thompson was placed on administrative leave August 15th, 2011, the same day the police department asked the DCI to investigate the woman’s allegations. He resigned two days later.

A telephone listing for Thompson has been disconnected.
