Former Brewers great Gorman Thomas speaks at Loggers Luncheon
Thomas will throw first pitch at the Loggers home opener
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Former Milwaukee Brewers great “Stormin’ Gorman” Thomas was the featured guest speaker at the Loggers Luncheon at Copeland Park on Thursday.
Thomas told stories about his former teammates and his days with the Brewers. Fans then got a chance to take pictures with him and get his autograph.
Thomas will throw out the first pitch at the Loggers home opener Thursday at 7:05 p.m. He played with the Brewers from 1973-1983 and also in 1986. He hit more home runs between 1978-1983 than any other player in the American League with 197. Thomas totaled 268 career home runs.
“I’m just happy to be at a ballpark because I love baseball always have always will and anytime I get a chance to be in attendance other than in the seats, it’s always a pleasure, so looking forward to it,” Thomas said. “The mayor [Tim Kabat] and I have a little competition I guess going out with the first pitch. We’re going to see who can get it there and who can’t. So we’ll find out what happens.”
When we told him we thought we knew who would win that competition, Thomas said he wasn’t sure.
“The rotator’s gone. New knee. I need a new leg, back’s sore, but I’ll otherwise, life is good,” Thomas said with a laugh.
The La Crosse Loggers are off to a 1-1 start after opening up the season on the road.
