Former Monroe Co. employee reaches plea deal in sex assault case
SPARTA, WI — A former Monroe County employee will spend time in jail for sexually assaulting two female inmates.
30 year old Adam Helgerson will spend nine months in jail and three years on probation as part of a plea deal.
He will also be supervised by the department of corrections under sex offender rules.
He was the former director of a Monroe County program that offered early release to inmates who perform community service.
Court documents say he assaulted one inmate five times between December 2010 and February 2011, and the second inmate between July and December 2011.
21028782The district attorney says it destroyed the trust people put in those kinds of programs. “In addition to the harm he caused the individual inmates, we think it was damaging to the county as well,” said D.A. Dan Cary.
Helgerson will report to jail on August 2nd.
