Former Onalaska city employee convicted of theft sentenced to probation
ONALASKA, Wis. (WKBT) — A former Onalaska city employee who admitted to stealing thousands dollars from the city is being ordered to pay the money back.
48-year-old Kari Neumann stole more than $71,000 between 2012 and 2016, pocketing the money from parking tickets and other citations that were paid in cash.
Neumann says she took the money to help pay for her husband’s health problems, but lost track of how much she stole and never paid it back. The theft was eventually discovered after an internal audit.
Neumann pled guilty to a charge of theft in a business setting in January.
She was sentenced Monday to pay back the money she stole within one year. She’ll also serve three years probation.
