Former U of Iowa doctor punished over porn, affair
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — A former University of Iowa doctor has given up his medical license and been fined $10,000 after regulators charged him with viewing child pornography and having an inappropriate sexual relationship with a female subordinate.
Gary Hunninghake resigned in May after being on paid leave for months while the university investigated allegations he possessed child pornography. Investigators closed the case without filing charges for reasons that haven’t been explained.
An Iowa Board of Medicine complaint released Friday says Hunninghake viewed pictures of nude children and other sexual material in the workplace and inappropriately accessed medical records of a subordinate with whom he was having an affair.
Separately, Hunninghake pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct after falsely telling Chicago police he was stabbed last year.
A call to his attorney wasn’t immediately returned.
