Freeze Warning

With temperatures dipping overnight, local gardeners may worry about the safety of their flowers

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT)-Even though it’s May, winter still seems to be creeping back up on us this week.

With temperatures dipping overnight, local gardeners may worry about the safety of their flowers.

Some flowers and other fruits and vegetables in your garden may be more susceptible to the lower temperatures.

According to David Lein, a Landscape and Horticulture Instructor at Western Technical College, there are some solutions to protecting your plants, “Something as simple as staking, putting some stakes up, that are taller than your tallest plant. draping a bed sheet, a tarp some sort of plastic over those plants, just to protect them from the frost threat.”

Lein also told us that seeds that have been recently planted, but have not yet begun to sprout, should be safe from the frost.
