From Kendall, Wisconsin to Poland with love

Wisconsin man and Mayo doctor team up to send holiday gifts to young, Ukrainian refugees

ONALASKA, Wis. (WKBT)- A Kendall, Wisconsin man is one step closer to making Christmas better for children from Ukraine.

News 8 Now first introduced you to Kale Kvistand earlier this year. The woodworker made 200 trucks for Ukrainian children forced to flee their homes because of the war.

At a recent doctor’s appointment, Kvistand told his physician want he was up to. Dr. Rebecca Danhof was so inspired she asked her co-workers to help. Together they donated 200 activity books. “We sent out an email to all the employees at Mayo on the Onalaska campus and they responded quite generously,” explains Danhof.

Kvistad says the additional gift will go a long way toward making the holidays better for kids forced from their homes. “This way they got something else to do besides just playing with trucks. They can do coloring and learn things in those books. There is a lot of different stuff in those books,” says Kvistad.

With the help of another community member and donations from the public, Kvistad says the trucks, books, and some crayons will be shipped to Chicago to Poland, and into the hands of young, Ukrainian refugees by Christmas.
