G-E-T’s Luke Vance wins State titles in 100, 200 dash
Also takes 3rd in 400 dash
G-E-T senior Luke Vance capped off a dominant senior season with two Division 2 State titles in the 100 and 200 meter dashes on Friday at UW-La Crosse.
Vance came in with the top seed times in both races and fended off the competition. Vance finished the 100 in 10.93 seconds, 0.04 seconds faster than second place from Catholic Memorial.
His second race of the day was the 400, and he took third with a time of 49.62 seconds. He said afterward he felt he came out of the gate slow and felt some leg fatigue heading into his 200 meter run.
He shook off any fatigue in that 200 race, using the final straightaway to jump from third to first and secure his second State championship.
“I think I came out a little slow for the 200, too, actually,” Vance said. “But I just knew I had to give it everything to pass those guys in front of me.
“Four years of hard work really pays off, I guess. I’m happy about how I did. I think I proved myself. I think people will definitely know who I am now, so I’m happy about that.”
