Getting a good night sleep important for children
Parents are encouraged to make sure children go to bed at the same time each night to help them get a good night sleep.
MADISON (WKBT) — Elementary school kids who get less than nine hours of sleep may experience a negative impact on their cognitive development.
A new study by the University of Maryland school of medicine finds differences in certain brain regions for kids who don’t get the recommended nine to 12 hours of sleep per night.
Doctors with UW Health in Madison say that lack of sleep can create plenty of problems.
“Kids who do not sleep enough hours, or even adults, they have issues during daytime like they can have issues with focus, irritability, mood issues. So definitely we want to have a good sleep at night,” said UW Health adult and pediatric sleep specialist Dr. Rachna Tiwari.
