Golden retrievers gather in Golden, Colorado
Golden, Colorado, went to the dogs Sunday to help celebrate National Golden Retriever Day.
Visit Golden, the city’s tourism campaign, joined with the rescue group Golden Retriever Rescue of the Rockies to throw the celebration, Denver TV station KDVR reported.
The event saw upward of 1,000 golden retrievers and their owners walking through the streets of Golden.
“Goldens are a perfect Colorado dog,” Visit Golden’s Hannah Button told KDVR. “I think every new car goes out with a golden retriever in the back seat.”
In addition to celebrating both the dog breed and the Denver suburb, famously home to the Coors brewery, the gathering of goldens in Golden was also an attempt to set a record.
KDVR reports that the estimated gathering is more than enough to surpass the current record for the most golden retrievers gathered in one place at the same time. That record was set in July 2018 when 361 golden retrievers gathered in Inverness-shire, Scotland, to mark the breed’s 150th anniversary.
