Gov. Walker will speak at annual Governor’s Conference on Tourism

The Governor's Conference on Tourism will be held at La Crosse Center

Governor Scott Walker will be in La Crosse Monday to talk about tourism in the state.

It’s a $17.5 billion industry in Wisconsin and is a full-time job for about 185,000 people across the state.

La Crosse is hosting the annual Governor’s Conference on Tourism at the La Crosse Center.

About 1,000 people from all 72 counties have made their way to La Crosse to learn about the latest trends in the tourism industry.

Over the past couple of years, tourism has increased throughout the state.

“Our numbers for 2014 will come out in just a month in a half, but the prior three years to that, we were up $2.7 billion, or 18 percent in three years,” said Stephanie Klett, Secretary of Wisconsin Department of Tourism.

It’s been about 8 years since the conference was last held in La Crosse. Walker will kick off the event Monday morning outlining his tourism vision for the state.
