‘Grain Bin Safety Week’ declared in Minnesota
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (WKBT)– Governor Tim Walz is declaring this week as Grain Bin Safety Week. It’s a time to draw attention to the rising rates of incidents and deaths involving grain bins, according to a press release.
Ten people have died in farming-related incidents in Minnesota since June 2019, according to the Governor’s office.
“I grieve with the Minnesota families who have lost loved ones in these terrible accidents,” said Governor Walz (DFL), in a statement. “Farming is one of the most dangerous professions in the United States, but through awareness and education, we can work together to decrease the number of preventable accidents, injuries, and deaths.”
The proclamation says Grain Bin Safety Week is an annual observance to promote grain bin safety on farms and commercial grain handling facilities.
