Grandad Half Marathon continues with 5K
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Three days of competition and exercise continued on Saturday.
The ninth annual Festival Foods Grandad Half Marathon in La Crosse brings in thousands of runners and bicyclists from across the area to participate in six events, including a 5K, a relay and of course, a half marathon.
To accommodate participants, several city streets will periodically be closed off.
Organizers say the La Crosse community has helped the event grow.
“There’s a reason why we opened up in La Crosse. I think it’s an active community, there’s encouragement for everybody. You turn around and take a look at the side of the street here and its just lined with people. No matter what has happened in the lead up to the race, it’s all about days like today that keep you going.” said Tyler Heinz, race director.
The half marathon finished up with an after-party at Riverside park with music and food.
Sunday will see a bicycle race in downtown La Crosse.
