Grant County officials warn of bee inspection scam
JAMESTOWN TOWNSHIP, Wis. — Grant County officials are alerting bee owners of possible scammers claiming to be bee inspectors.
Grant County sheriff’s deputies were notified of a suspicious vehicle and persons Thursday on Plum Hollow Road, according to a release.
Two men in a black Chevy SUV stopped at a residence claiming to be a state bee inspector, officials said. The resident had sold the bees two years ago, and the men left.
No other bee owners in the area had been inspected, according to the release.
Investigators also checked with the division at the state that is in charge of bee inspections, and they didn’t have record of any of their inspectors being in Grant County on June 9.
Officials ask anyone else has had a similar experience on or around June 9 to call the sheriff’s office and speak with Deputy Vance Vankirk.
