Grass fires erupt along train tracks
SPARTA, Wis. (WKBT) — It took two different fire stations to put out grass fires along the train tracks Monday afternoon.
The Bangor and Sparta Fire Departments responded to six different fires along the tracks.
A Canadian Pacific Train was heading southbound when the departments got the call.
Flames reached about 2 feet high with each fire spanning about half an acre.
The train was stopped so the fires could be put out.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but Sparta’s fire chief believe the heat of the train wheels mixed with the dry conditions started the fires.
