‘Great American Smokeout’ encourages people to end tobacco use

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — The “Great American Smokeout” Thursday was a day to encourage people to stop smoking.
Tobacco use remains the leading cause of preventable disease and death in the U.S., according to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
And cigarettes are the most common tobacco product among adults.
There are a lot of tools to help you to kick the habit.
“We know it is difficult. But it takes time and motivation and a lot of support,” said Sarah Kennedy, Mayo Clinic Health System tobacco treatment specialist.
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services posted free help available online and on the ‘Wisconsin Tobacco Quit Line, at 1 (800) QUIT-NOW (784-8669).
