Groundbreaking kicks off construction of new Trempealeau Co. Justice Center
WHITEHALL, Wis. (WKBT) – A project 20 years in the making finally broke ground Monday.
Construction on the new Trempealeau County Justice Center in Whitehall will soon be underway.
It will house courtrooms, the sheriff’s office, jail, and other administrative offices.
Located next to the existing facility, the project will cost upwards of $38 million.
In an area filled with rural communities, the county wanted to be transparent about where the money is coming from and how it’s being spent.
It created a website explaining the project, sent out mailers, and even hosted a live television show where people could call in with questions.
“It really showed that we weren’t hiding anything and we gave them a voice, but most importantly we gave them some understanding as to why we really needed this,” said Trempealeau Co. Sheriff Brett Semingson.
The project is expected to take two years.
