Gundersen: All employees must by vaccinated against COVID by Nov. 1

Gundersen joins Mayo Clinic Health System and other organizations that require vaccination to protect against the coronavirus.

LA CROSSE (WKBT) — Gundersen Health System in La Crosse said Tuesday that all employees must be vaccinated against COVID-19 by Nov. 1.

Gundersen joins Mayo Clinic Health System and other organizations that require vaccination to protect against the coronavirus.

“COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations are rising locally and nationally, driven almost entirely by the highly contagious Delta variant and by those who have not been vaccinated against the virus,” said Gundersen in a statement.

About 85% of employees have already been vaccinated, according to the health system. Gundersen staff continue to follow measures – wearing masks and eye protection, safe distancing, thorough hand hygiene, and regular deep cleaning – to ensure health and safety at all locations.

“COVID-19 vaccine is free, is proven to be safe, and is the surest way to protect everyone against this virus,” said Gundersen Health System’s statement.

Anyone age 12 and older, patients and non-patients, can get a COVID-19 vaccine at Gundersen. Visit gundersenhealth.org/vaccine for information on vaccine eligibility and scheduling an appointment.

Mandatory vaccinations are supported by the Wisconsin Nurses Association, the Wisconsin Medical Society and a host of other organizations on the grounds that the vaccines protect both patients and health care workers from serious complications and death from the disease.Wisconsin law already requires that hospital workers be vaccinated against other infectious diseases, including measles, and employer mandates of the COVID-19 vaccine have been upheld in court. On Monday, Washington state made it law that health care workers need to get the vaccine.
