Gundersen Health System, Bellin Health to complete merger by end of year
LA CROSSE (WKBT) — Two major Midwest health systems say their merger talks are progressing smoothly.
Gundersen Health system and Green Bay’s Bellin Health first announced their merger plans in June. Their CEOs said Thursday they expect the merger transaction to be finished by the end of this year.
Gundersen’s CEO said the shared vision from day one has been to preserve and enhance local care, and while their business size will change, where and how patients have gotten their local care will not.
“Who you’re seeing today, you’ll continue to see the day after the merger is completed,” said Gundersen CEO Dr. Scott Rathgaber. “And you’ll do that in the same facilities, get the same great care wherever you have been, with the same providers and the same insurance.”
Gundersen and Bellin have not decided on an official name, but Rathgaber said you’ll continue to hear the name Gundersen in the La Crosse region. When combined, the health systems will offer care at 11 hospitals and more than 100 clinics across Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, and Michigan.
