Gundersen Health System considered top hospital for enviornmental excellence
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — An area hospital is being recognized for environmental excellence in healthcare.
For the 11 th year in a row, Gundersen Health System was named one of the top 25 hospitals in the country for environmental initiatives by healthcare environmental resource group, Practice Greenhealth.
Cecelia DeLoach Lynn, a representative for Practice Greenhealth, said the hospital has made a great effort to create a sustainable environment.
“Based on a rigorous scoring system, this award honors the breadth of success in sustainability programs including leadership, waste, chemicals, greening the operating room, food, environmentally preferable purchasing, energy, water,climate and green building. As Practice Greenhealth’s highest honor, this award recognizes the best of the best in healthcare environmental stewardship,” DeLoach Lynn said.
Sustainability Coordinator at Gundersen, Tom Thompson, said the hospital still has improvements to make.
“While this is a great accomplishment, our work isn’t finished. We are always coming up with new ideas and initiatives as we strive to improve the environment and enrich the lives of people in the communities we serve,” Thompson said.
Hudson Hospital & Clinic was the only other hospital in Wisconsin to make the top 25.
