Gundersen to save money by switching to power-save mode

9,000 computers, monitors part of program

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — By setting up a program on its computers and monitors, Gundersen Health System hopes to save more than $125,000 annually just in electricity for the monitors.

Gundersen recently set up the program to run on power saving mode on more than 9,000 desktop computers and monitors when they have been inactive for 15 minutes.

Employees just have to move their mouse or press a key on their keyboard to resume work. Gundersen said there is no increased risk of losing unsaved work.

“Saving monitor power when nobody is using them is one of the biggest things we can do individually toward our organizational energy independence goal,” said Jeff Rich, Gundersen Envision’s executive director.
