Habitat, Thrivent invite public to write ‘Prayers on Posts’ at Faith Build home
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Habitat La Crosse Area is inviting folks to participate in what could become a time capsule of sorts — writing well wishes and prayers on the framing for its new project house with Thrivent.
The messages written during the “Prayers on Posts” events will be for the Olson family, who will help in the construction and move into the home at 1121 Avon St. upon completion.
Habitat and Thrivent are cooperating on the Faith Build home, inviting the public to “leave a lasting imprint . . . come and write your well-wishes and prayers for the Olson Family on the framing.”
The hopeful and prayer messaging events, billed as “free and fun for the whole family,” will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday and from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 14.
Thrivent, headquartered in Minneapolis, was founded in 1902 to help people build their financial futures. It began with providing much-needed insurance contracts to the Lutheran community. It now is a Fortune 500 company offering financial services to more than 2 million clients.
Thrivent and Habitat have partnered since 2005 to build safe, affordable homes in cooperation with families that will own the homes. The Habitat and Thrivent Faith Builds enlist local churches to raise a roof, walls, funds and prayers to build a house with a family.
As for the time capsule potential, just imagine that, 100 years from now, if whoever owns the house then decides to do a little remodeling and remove wallboard, they might find the messages and prayers etched on the framing boards. Just like some remodelers do these days when they find old newspapers and such in the walls of their homes.
