Highlight Zone Coundtown: Independence/Gilmanton Indees

It was just one game. But for Independence/Gilmanton it was a little bit more than that.

The Indees as an eight-seed knocked off conference foe Cochrane-Fountain City in Level 1 of the 2013 WIAA playoffs.

With a strong senior class of 13 this season, Independence/Gilmanton is hoping to be a top contender in the Dairyland Conference.

“Just the energy level, you can just see it build out here. You feed off wins like that,” said fourth year head coach John Zilla.

“Even the younger guys getting them more into the program now and buying into the weight lifting. The little things, it just made our program that much stronger.”

“I think it gives us a lot of confidence,” said senior Ace Whitwam.

“There was I guess incoming freshmen this year that were at the game and saw that and I guess that was part of the reason a lot of the kids join this year because they saw that and now they want to be a part of Independence football.”
