Hillsboro Heads Home With Second In D5

Tigers Fall 56-50 to Young Coggs Prep

The clock struck midnight Saturday, for the Hillsboro Tigers. The last local team standing in 2014-15 high school basketball season fell 56-50 to the Eagles of Young Coggs Prep.

The final score Saturday, however, is not what will be remembered by the orange and black faithful who invaded Madison during the week.

The team, and its fans, leave Madison prouder than ever, thanks to a young Hillsboro basketball squad that will be favored next season to again contend for a state title.

“I’m so proud of our kids, where we have come this season to get to this point,” said head coach Curt Hildreth. “I just told our guys in the locker room there is nothing but pride. This is the greatest accomplishment in Hillsboro basketball history. We are proud to be a part of it. “

In the loss, the Tigers were led by 28 points and 12 rebounds from the leader of the fab five of juniors, Max Stockwell.

“They were quick, and they could jump,” said Stockwell. “But once we adjusted to their style we were fine. We just came up a few plays short.”

The Tigers returned to Hillsboro High School gymnasium packed with local supporters Saturday evening.
