Holmen community center voted down

HOLMEN, Wis. (WKBT) — Residents in the Town of Holland voted in favor of a community center, but voters in the Town of Onalaska voted it down. That means the communities will have to go back to the drawing board for the plans.

The Village of Holmen, the Town of Holland and the Town of Onalaska have all been asked to contribute $500,000 to the project. Holmen had already committed to funding the center. The Town of Holland and Town of Onalaska put it up for referendum.

On Tuesday, residents in the Town of Holland voted in favor of the community center in a 367 to 291 vote. Residents in the Town of Onalaska voted down the referendum 425 to 359.

The municipalities came together to design a community center to serve all of their residents. The 22,000 square-foot building’s price tag is somewhere between $4.2 and $4.5 million.
